What is Overlanding?

Overland tours are a sociable, affordable and active way to travel. As a group we travel from location to location in a purpose-built vehicle, enjoying camping or hotel accommodation. Finding transport and accommodation can be frustrating when travelling alone but with a South America Overland trip this is all taken care of for you, leaving you much more time to experience and choose your own activities and entertainment.

Prices are kept low by working together to prepare meals, and securing group discounts for hotels and activities. There is much fun to be had with other like-minded people in your group, and your tour leader makes sure you have everything you need to enjoy your time fully.

Your tour leader is fully experienced in running overland tours in South America but will not over-organise the trip –we have a list of places we will visit, but no strict itinerary. Your leader will give you all the information you need to feel confident about setting out in each new place and to choose what you want to do. They can make recommendations, but ultimately it is up to you to decide what you want. After all, this is YOUR trip, and you have the freedom to make it what you want.

One of the big advantages of overland travel is the group aspect – here is a chance to enjoy your new South American experiences with people who can very quickly become good friends. The relaxed atmosphere of friendship and cooperation in our groups adds a lot to your enjoyment and satisfaction of the trip. There is always someone to chat with, share meals and a drink with and spend time with. Travelling in a group is safer, and many of the places we go to some people would be apprehensive about travelling to alone – but with the security of the truck and knowledge your tour leader has of these areas, security issues are minimal. Group sizes are between 10 and 25 people.

Some of the journeys we make will be as interesting and challenging as the places we go – in fact some journeys may be impossible without everyone working together to build, dig and push our way there! You must be prepared to rise to these challenges should they appear. The minimum age is 18, but there is no upper age limit – our tours are open to anyone who will enjoy the outdoor life and are able to join in and be part of the group. Because of the length of the trips, overland travel is best suited to people with plenty of free time eg: a career break, gap year travel or sabbaticals.

So this type of adventure holiday is best suited to active, positive people with a joy of the outdoors and a desire to have a great few months taking in new places and doing things they’ve always dreamed about!
